1. Speaking about obligations:

• They had to + BV
• They were forced to + BV 
  
• They were told to + BV
• They were made to + BV
  

Example: Black people had to use separate toilets.

2. Speaking about permissions:

• They  were / weren't allowed to + BV
• They could/couldn't + BV

Example: White people were allowed to vote.                                         

3. Practise: Write four other sentences about Apartheid using a different structure for each sentence.
